KommuneKredit issues EUR 750 million green bond

Today KommuneKredit issued a EUR 750 million green bond with a 10-year term to maturity. KommuneKredit’s green bonds finance more than 200 local green projects across Denmark. The eligibility of the projects as a basis for KommuneKredit’s green bonds is assessed by a Green Committee. There are green projects from Frederikshavn to Rødby and from Esbjerg to Bornholm, and they include, among other things, solar heating plants, sustainable rainwater management and LED street lighting.

“I’m very pleased that the issuance of green bonds allows us to bring focus to the improvements of environmental and climate conditions achieved through investments in the Danish local communities,” states CEO Jens Lundager. “I especially want to thank our two external experts on the Green Bond Committee, who ensure that the financed projects meet the requirements of the Green Bond Principles.”

“It is incredibly exciting to be a part of KommuneKredit’s work with green financing. I believe it pushes development in the right direction. In the Green Committee we see a steady increase in projects, which indicates that the Danish utilities sector is making green investments and that in the future we will be a strong presence in the Green Bond Market.” says Hans-Martin Friis Møller.

Carl Hellmers agrees: “It’s important to the utility companies that KommuneKredit gives investors the option of fulfilling their investment needs with green Danish projects. Now the utility companies need to support this opportunity as much as possible. We have many green investments in Denmark, and another green bond from KommuneKredit is good news to the entire sector.”
